*Prerequisite:* Having learned the parts to this song in one of my previous workshops (see Level One offered earlier in this festival), being able to learn parts very quickly or schedule a private lesson with me on Thursday. In Level Two I will teach parts never taught before, and plan to delve deeper into hooking the parts and arranging the song. Wanda based this marimba arrangement on mbira parts taught by Cosmas Magaya. This song has a different chord progression from the well-known Nhemamusasa. The arrangement starts with a call and response from one side of the ensemble to the other. Two sopranos and a tenor provide a trio on each side which speak back and forth. Wanda says that for her, the swirling of the song evokes a feeling of being "inside the head" of a mbira player during a bira (ceremony). Four sopranos enable symmetry in the arrangement; however, a slight modification allows it to be played with three sopranos. Key of G (mixolydian mode; does not use F#s). You may listen to a sound file of this arrangement through a link on this Web page: [[http://www.marimbaworks.com/WWalker/]]
Student Materials: A standard set of 7 marimbas will be available for this workshop.
