Daniel Lockley has been playing Zimbabwean marimba and mbira music since he was ten years old. By 2005, he was on the road playing both marimba and bass guitar with Jaka Marimba, performing throughout the Southwest and West Coast with respected Zimbabwean musicians such as David Gweshe and the revolutionary “Queen of Mbira,” Stella Chiweshe. Since then, Daniel has been performing with the Andé Marimba Band, sharing the stage with the likes of Bo Diddley, members of the Brazilian Girls, Steve Kimock, Michael Kang, and many prominent Zimbabwean artists.
Daniel and other members of Andé have worked with Chris Berry to present intensive workshops across the country at the Kutandara Center in Boulder, CO, the Zimbabwean Music Festival, and at Camp Nuandu in Puna, HI.
More recently, Daniel has taught workshops with long time friend, Jeff Brahe and is cur rently teaching classes and private lessons, both independently and through Ethos Music Center in Portland, OR.
